Alexander Volkanovski retained the UFC featherweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Diego Lopes at UFC 325 in Sydney. The judges scored the rematch 49-46, 49-46 and 50-45, improving on Volkanovski's previous win. Volkanovski maintained distance, landed superior counter strikes and effective calf kicks while also securing takedowns. Lopes landed some body shots and achieved takedowns, but Volkanovski produced slightly more fight control, with an extra 45 seconds according to ESPN Research. Volkanovski saluted the home crowd and finished with late ground-and-pound, calling adversity a privilege in his postfight remarks.
