Max will show autoplaying video previews picked by AI
Briefly

Max, soon to revert to its HBO Max branding, is launching an update that enables autoplaying video previews for shows and movies when users hover over them. Currently rolling out in the US, this feature utilizes an AI tool under development to automatically identify standout moments from content, streamlining the curation process. Additionally, users will have the option to mute these previews. An interface update was rolled out earlier this year, and a significant rebranding transition back to HBO Max is planned for summer.
The video previews are launching to users in the US now, but Max is still working on an 'AI-assisted' tool to pick the clips that go in them.
This AI-driven technology will enable us to identify Drop-in Moments for the vast catalog of content on Max and significantly reduce the manual time needed to curate previews, said Avi Saxena.
