Samsung plans to adopt solid-state batteries in its wearable devices, starting with the Galaxy Ring, anticipated for release in the fourth quarter of this year. This innovative battery type utilizes a solid electrolyte which not only enhances energy density but also significantly reduces fire hazards compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries. Following the Galaxy Ring, solid-state batteries will also find their way into earbuds by late 2024 and smartwatches by 2027. However, the transition could lead to increased costs for consumers, given the higher manufacturing costs of solid-state batteries.
Samsung is introducing solid-state batteries in its wearables, enhancing energy density and design flexibility while minimizing fire risks associated with traditional lithium-ion batteries.
The upcoming Galaxy Ring, expected in Q4 of this year, will be Samsung's first product featuring solid-state technology, followed by earbuds and smartwatches in future releases.
