WhatsApp is adding a voicemail-like feature that lets callers leave a quick voice message when a voice call goes unanswered. After an unanswered call, the app shows a "Record voice message" shortcut on the call screen alongside "Call again" and "Cancel", and the same shortcut appears in the chat with the contact. The shortcuts enable fast sending of audio messages without opening the paperclip menu. The feature appeared in beta version 2.25.23.21 for Android and is available to some beta testers. Public release timing remains unclear.
Last month, we heard about WhatsApp developing a feature that would let users set reminders for the calls they missed. Now we've learned that the Meta-owned company is working on a voicemail-like feature for missed calls. This revelation comes from the folks at WABetaInfo, who spotted the development of this voicemail-like feature in beta version 2.25.23.21 of WhatsApp for Android.
These two shortcuts will allow you to quickly send audio messages to the person who couldn't answer your call. Of course, you also have the option to record a voice note separately by tapping on the paperclip icon in the chat, but sending voice messages using these new shortcuts should make the entire process a tad more convenient. WABetaInfo claims this feature is currently available for some beta testers on Android, but it's unclear if and when it will get a public release.
