Dave Huismans, known as 2562 and A Made Up Sound, returns with the project ex_libris, releasing two untitled EPs after nearly a decade. Huismans ended A Made Up Sound's label in 2016, believing it had run its course. The music of A Made Up Sound significantly contributed to the post-dubstep era, evolving the genre. The final EP expressed Huismans' artistic ambitions, and ex_libris demonstrates considerable growth, with soundworlds that are complex and richly imagined, defying traditional genre labels.
A Made Up Sound's eight-year run was a highlight of the post-dubstep era—a time when dubstep artists outgrew classic conventions and created new sound mutations.
Huismans, as a Dutch outsider to the UK-centric scene, made much of the best music, providing cutting-edge DJs with records that were twisted, otherworldly, and party-rocking.
Listening to the final EP 'Bygones / Peace Offering,' it’s suggested that with ex_libris, Huismans has picked up right where he left off, but he shows greater skill.
The ex_libris project features vastly more elaborate and richly imagined soundworlds, too unconventional to be labeled techno or any specific genre.
