At the age of 78, Rusty Williams's dream of a music career is being rekindled by his granddaughter, Hayley Williams, frontwoman of Paramore. Rusty has been passionate about music since childhood and recorded songs in the '70s, but was rejected by Nashville executives who wanted him to conform to the country genre. He refused to change his style, leading to his recordings collecting dust over the years. However, Hayley has been inspired by her grandfather's music, reigniting interest in his work and bridging their musical legacy.
Hayley Williams recalls hearing her grandfather's music as a child: "I had heard him play some of those songs on the piano when I was really, really young."
Rusty stood his ground against Nashville executives who wanted him to conform to a country music style: "Go home and make them country. I said, I am not country. Don't want to be country."
Rusty's granddaughter, Hayley, reflects on their shared musical journey: "She would say, granddad, how do I get in the music business? I said, baby, you got to want it."
Though now 78, Rusty remains connected to his music: "Although he let the recordings collect dust, he never forgot about the music."
