Crip Ecstasy is a revolutionary dance and drag event designed specifically for individuals with diverse access needs, spearheaded by Octavia Rose Hingle and others. With personal experiences of mobility challenges, these organizers create safe, enjoyable, and accessible nightlife atmospheres to foster connection among disabled queer individuals. Performance artists associated with the event actively promote disability justice and safer partying practices, reflecting a growing movement within nightlife that stresses inclusivity, support, and community empowerment. The event symbolizes a departure from the traditional, often inaccessible nightlife culture, aiming to reshape it to embrace all participants.
Historically and today, nightlife has been an important way for queer people to find themselves and their community - and Cook and Hingle knew they weren't the only disabled people yearning for that kind of connection.
I'm happy and proud to be a part of what is a bigger movement happening right now in nightlife, both in the Bay Area and beyond.
