Komorebi, created by Matteo Marangoni and Dieter Vandoren, features a swarm of artificial creatures that respond musically to environmental changes such as sunlight, clouds, and tree shadows. This work explores the concept that "life" extends beyond organic forms, manifesting within intricate systems. Each creature operates independently on its processor, exchanging non-verbal information through physical interactions. Presented in natural settings, Komorebi offers visitors a unique auditory experience, allowing them to engage with the changing music generated by the swarm in response to its environment. The project highlights the relationship between technology and nature.
Komorebi suggests that "life" is not limited to organic forms, but can also be seen in complex systems beyond traditional definitions of biological life.
