Nazar, the Amsterdam-based electronic producer, is set to release his first album in five years titled 'Demilitarize' on April 25 through Hyperdub. The lead single 'Anticipate' is already out. Nazar shared that this introspective album differs from his previous work 'Guerrilla,' as it focuses on a metaphysical theme, drawing inspiration from the cyberpunk anime 'Ghost in the Shell.' His creative process was deeply influenced by personal health struggles, including a severe battle with COVID-19 and tuberculosis, alongside a new romantic relationship which brought him joy amidst these challenges.
"With the album being introspective, I didn't seek to capture sounds from real places to enhance its universe like on Guerrilla," Nazar explained.
"I wanted to make it almost metaphysical like creating sci-fi, with classic cyberpunk anime Ghost in the Shell being a core inspiration."
"After releasing Guerrilla, Nazar contracted COVID-19, and his weakened immune system allowed his dormant tuberculosis diagnosis to take over his body, leaving him gravely ill for a year."
"Being forced to grapple with his own mortality, as well as a bourgeoning romance fueling him with love, inspired Nazar to create Demilitarize."
