Ekko Astral and Gender Liberation Movement Announce Liberation Weekend in Washington, D.C.
Briefly

D.C.'s Ekko Astral is collaborating with the Gender Liberation Movement to present Liberation Weekend, a music and arts festival set for May 30-31. This event will feature performances from various artists including Ekko Astral, Home Is Where, and Ted Leo. The band underscores the urgency of supporting the trans community, linking artistic expression with trans rights advocacy. Proceeds will assist Gender Liberation Movement's initiatives against anti-trans policies, and the festival will also host a dance afterparty along with a showcase of notable musicians. Ekko Astral has upcoming performances at Pitchfork Music Festivals in London and Paris.
"The reason we're putting this event on is simple: artists of all genders and genres should stand in vocal support of the trans community," Ekko Astral bandleader Jael Holzman said in a press statement.
"If you stand for freedom of expression, you support trans rights. If you believe in loving your neighbor, you support trans rights. Music is humanity's most universal language-and we need our best artists to come together in support of our community now before it's too late."
Proceeds from Liberation Weekend will fund Gender Liberation Movement's rallies, demonstrations, and direct actions in protest of anti-trans businesses and policymaking.
The event will also include a dance afterparty and a "showcase" of Red Hot Organization's compilation featuring L'Rain, Bartees Strange, and Asher White.
