Pulse massacre survivors in Florida to revisit nightclub before it is razed
Briefly

Survivors and family members of the 49 victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting will visit the site before its demolition for a permanent memorial. The tragic event on June 12, 2016, marked a significant loss within the LGBTQ+ community and was the worst mass shooting in US history at that time. Orlando city has purchased the property and plans to invest $12 million in a memorial to be completed by 2027. This nine-year journey reflects the challenges faced in creating a fitting tribute to those lost.
"None of us thought that it would take nine years to get to this point... what we can do is control how we move forward together," said Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings.
"The opportunity to visit the nightclub comes on the ninth anniversary of the mass shooting, allowing families to reflect and heal before the structure is demolished.”
"The city of Orlando purchased the Pulse property in 2023 for $2m and plans to build a $12m permanent memorial that will open in 2027."
