New York restaurants with conditional outdoor dining approvals can now apply for liquor licenses, easing fears of a boozeless season for outdoor dining. Previously, the State Liquor Authority mandated that restaurants secure outdoor permits before liquor license applications, creating a backlog. As of now, only 47 out of 3,000 restaurants have been fully approved. The NYC Hospitality Alliance praised the decision, suggesting it will benefit both restaurant owners and patrons, ensuring uninterrupted outdoor dining experiences in the city.
"We are pleased that the State Liquor Authority worked closely with us to also allow businesses that have received conditional approval to serve alcohol while their applications remain under review," the DOT said in a statement shared with The Post.
"We applaud their decision, which benefits restaurants and all New Yorkers who love outdoor dining," said a representative from the DOT.
Andrew Rigie, executive director of the NYC Hospitality Alliance, called it a "reasonable process that ensures outdoor dining remains uninterrupted for restaurants, workers, and New Yorkers and visitors."
