The Animal Care Centers of NYC, along with the ASPCA, rescued 48 Belgian Malinois from a filthy Queens apartment where they were kept confined. Many of the dogs had never experienced the outdoors, resulting in their being discovered in cramped areas without fresh air. Sadly, three dogs had to be euthanized due to medical conditions. According to Biana Tamimi, the situation for the surviving dogs has been challenging, but there are indications of their curiosity despite the trauma. No one has been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
The owners of the dogs have not been publicly identified.
Every new sound, every human interaction, is overwhelming. But we're already seeing glimmers of curiosity- and that gives us hope.
