Recent dining regulations have prompted distress among NYC restaurateurs, particularly concerning outdoor dining setups. Ayza's chocolate and wine bar is facing relocation after being warned about its beloved trolley, a pandemic-era adaptation. Owner Julio Pena of Il Posto Accanto expressed intent to dispute fines over outdoor dining removals, emphasizing the economic implications such as potential layoffs. The new guidelines from NYCDOT seem to shift from partnership with local businesses to punitive measures, jeopardizing the economic and social benefits that outdoor dining has brought to community engagement and restaurant viability.
It's hard to accept all the efforts will go to waste, just by thinking outside of the box to save the business.
I will fight that fine. I plan to fight until the very end. If I have to go before a tribunal judge, I will.
We do not want to cut the hours of our staff or lay off staff.
Instead of supporting local entrepreneurs...the new rules are making it costlier and more complicated to provide the kind of outdoor spaces that have proven economic and social benefits.
