In 2025, while digital media dominates entertainment, the NYC Tape Fair in Bushwick signifies a revival of physical media, showcasing cassettes and VHS tapes. Co-founder Anthony Morton, motivated by his nostalgic love for low-cost physical media, believes it fosters accessibility for consumers and artists alike. The fair, a culmination of efforts to gather multiple vendors and enthusiasts, aims to create a community for tape collectors. It reflects a unique cultural shift as people seek tangible connections to their favorite music and films amidst a predominantly digital landscape.
I wanted to own all my favorite movies, and realizing people were basically throwing VHSs away allowed me to do that and exposed me to so many new things because of the low financial barrier for entry.
I went to a lot of record fairs and there would be one vendor with a box of tapes, not really curated, just kind of stuff they found along the way when they were buying records.
