Health officials in New Jersey warned that fans attending Shakira's concert on May 15 may have been exposed to measles due to an infected individual. The NJ Department of Health advised those present at the event, which drew over 82,000 attendees, to be vigilant for symptoms of the virus and ensure they're vaccinated against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR). Symptoms could appear as late as June 6, and currently, no additional cases have been reported following the concert. Concerns about measles outbreaks are rising across the US as cases surpass 1,000 recently.
Individuals - especially parents, guardians, health care providers, and caregivers - are urged to be aware of the symptoms of this highly contagious virus and to ensure they are up to date with the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) shots.
Anyone who suspects an exposure or illness is urged to call a health care provider BEFORE going to any medical office or emergency department.
