St Mary's School in Walthamstow closed on Monday following a credible threat of violence made against it and other schools. The school prioritized safety by consulting with the police and temporarily shutting down to protect students and staff. The threat arrived via email, prompting a prompt response from school authorities. Local MP Stella Creasy updated parents, confirming that the threat was serious and had been received by other schools as well. As investigations proceed, parents should prepare for potential closures of related childcare services during this period.
In an email sent to parents shortly after 7.30am, St Mary's explained it had received a threat via email referring to committing acts of violence to those on our premises.
The primary school added that the safety of its children and staff was its top priority.
Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy wrote: I can confirm that the school has received a threat that is being taken seriously.
For those parents organising childcare it is reasonable to assume that the school nursery will be closed for at least this morning whilst investigations take place.
