Parents of students at the TIDE Academy magnet school are asking a judge to stop the Sequoia Union High School District from closing the school at 150 Jefferson Drive in Menlo Park. Parents allege in the federal court suit that the district is discriminating against children with disabilities by closing TIDE. The district's school board voted unanimously Feb. 4 to close TIDE due to a tight budget. "Closing TIDE disproportionately burdens the disabled community," the suit states.
The K-8 MetroWest Jewish Day School in Framingham will close at the end of the school year, with school leaders saying their personalized, faith-based model has become too costly to sustain. Founded by Steven and Renée Finn in 2003, the school has served more than 300 students from over 30 towns across the region. In response to the school's closure, the Finn family has committed to providing tuition support for current students who continue their Jewish day school education through eighth grade.
All Worcester Public Schools (WPS) will be closed on Friday due to hazardous wind chill conditions, the district said. All WPS athletic events and all Head Start after-school programs are also canceled for Friday. Worcester will see a high of nearly 13 degrees, with a wind chill making it feel as cold as -16, the National Weather Service forecast.
St. Joseph School in Medford canceled classes until Thursday after a "significant" number of students were sent home Monday with stomach bug symptoms, the school's spokesperson said Tuesday. A letter sent to parents said the school would cancel classes and EDP to stop the illness from spreading before the holidays. The time off will be used to "deep clean and sanitize the school," the letter said.
School leaders announced last week that Aurora School, a private north Oakland school serving 76 students in kindergarten to eighth grade, would be welcoming students and educators from the Children's School beginning next year. "The more and more that we were in discussions, the more we found in common and more potential we saw in taking the best of each of our communities," said Lynsey Kamine, the head of school at Aurora School. "We also want to offer a route for the legacy of Mills' early childhood program and lab program to carry on." Aurora is expecting around 20 students to enroll from the Children's School, Kamine said.
"As we are currently unable to open, we have implemented a plan for the effective continuation of learning. "Work will be set in accordance with the usual timetable, where staff are well enough to do so. "A range of learning activities will be set... any additional teacher support in lessons will take place via Teams message or school email."

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District will close for most of next week after the district detected ransomware in its servers, according to district officials. The district will close from Sept. 15-18 and will exchange the dates it is closed with other previously scheduled non-working days integrated into the current UCISD calendar. The ransomware detected by the district is affecting several essential online systems, including phones, thermostats, camera monitoring and visitor management systems, among critical services, the district said.
