In a move to protest against insufficient statutory paternity leave, British fathers are preparing for a strike in London. Organisers, The Dad Shift, aim to gather parents in Whitehall next month to demand better leave policies, arguing that the current entitlement of just two weeks, which is the least generous in Europe, burdens women disproportionately. With many fathers regretting their lack of time with newborns, campaigners emphasize the need for changes to allow dads to spend more meaningful time with their families.
The UK's rubbish paternity leave system means from the day our kids arrive most fathers are forced to make an impossible choice between going out to work and provide for our families, and providing them with the one thing that matters most, our presence.
Currently, fathers are entitled to up to a fortnight of statutory paternity leave, which can be taken as one continuous two-week block or as two separate one-week blocks.
