Florida middle school principal arrested for 'skip scanning' at Walmart: 'I did something dumb'
Briefly

Gregory Lewis, principal of Bok Academy North, was arrested for trying to use a shoplifting tactic that involved 'skip scanning' at a Walmart in Polk County. He placed cheaper items between more expensive ones to avoid paying full price for $37.45 worth of groceries. After admitting to the attempt, Lewis cited peer influence as a motivation. Following the incident, he was placed on administrative leave pending review by Lake Wales Charter Schools, while others expressed concern over the impact on the education profession's reputation.
"We sit around talking, 'Hey I did this.' Let me try and see what I can get away with," Lewis told an officer who was wearing a body camera during his arrest.
Retired Polk County teacher James Barker said, "Unfortunately, it's turning our profession into a sad situation. More and more people are doing just stupid things without any regard to the consequences."
