Ula Grigaityte, a student at Scoil Róis Primary School, tragically died after being struck by an oil delivery truck in Galway while biking with her father. The community mourns her loss deeply. School principal Michele McCarra expressed their sadness and plans to support students through this tragedy, implementing a Critical Incident Management Plan with the aid of psychologists. Local councillor Frank Fahy called it a shocking event amid a push for an active lifestyle, highlighting the stark contrast between safety and tragedy in everyday activities.
Ula's death is a terrible tragedy for her family and our school community. We are deeply saddened by these events. Our sympathy and thoughts are with Ula's family and friends.
We are always encouraging people to be out and about and active and then this awful tragedy happened.
The school has implemented our Critical Incident Management Plan. Psychologists from the National Educational Psychological Service have been with us all day supporting and advising staff in their efforts to assist their students.
Ula will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
