Three federal prosecutors, including Danielle Sassoon, John Keller, and Kevin Driscoll, resigned following an order from the Department of Justice to drop charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams. Sassoon termed the DOJ's decision as "rushed and superficial," asserting that she believed in the legality of the charges against Adams. The resignations indicate a growing tension within the DOJ amid claims of pressure from political figures since Trump’s influence, highlighting concerns over integrity and impartial justice in federal prosecutions.
I have always considered it my obligation to pursue justice impartially, without favor to the wealthy or those who occupy important public office, or harsher treatment for the less powerful.
Because the law does not support a dismissal, and because I am confident that Adams has committed the crimes with which he is charged, I cannot agree to seek a dismissal driven by improper considerations.
