On Monday morning, police in Queens fatally shot a man wielding a knife after responding to a 911 call at 31st Street and 30th Avenue. Despite efforts to assist the man after the shooting, he was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital. The incident escalated when the man did not comply with police demands to drop his weapon, leading to the officers opening fire. The area was sealed off for an investigation. Authorities reported more than a dozen shots may have been fired during the encounter.
