DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin criticized Democratic lawmakers for their defense of colleagues who engaged in a protest at an ICE facility in Newark, New Jersey. She accused them of potentially assaulting federal agents and expressed willingness to arrest them. The incident, marked by tension and conflicting narratives, raises questions about oversight rights and the conduct of both the lawmakers and the ICE agents involved. Democratic representatives emphasize their right to conduct oversight without notice, while McLaughlin argues their actions endangered law enforcement and detainees.
I'd like to lay out the facts. The fact that it was these three members of Congress who trespassed, broke the law, and stormed that ICE detention facility.
Had they asked for a tour we would facilitated one for them, but there was no notice. And the fact that they put hands body-slammed, body-rammed, pushed, shoved, whatever you want to call it, it was an assault on ICE agents and it's unacceptable.
