How Philadelphia Is Fighting Back Against Donald Trump's Anti-Worker Crusade
Briefly

The article highlights the urgent need for worker rights protections in light of recent federal actions under Donald Trump, who has significantly weakened labor protections. In Philadelphia, local leaders, including those from the Working Families Party, are collaborating to combat these rollbacks, offering a model for other cities. A key development is the introduction of the Protect Our Workers Enforce Rights (POWER) Act, which is seen as vital legislation aimed at reinforcing worker protections, establishing a proactive stance against corporate greed and ensuring fair labor practices for all citizens.
In just the first few months of his term, Donald Trump has dismantled the Department of Labor, illegally fired the former head of the National Labor Relations Board, dismissed hundreds of thousands of federal workers without regard for their union contracts, and now is attempting to end collective bargaining rights for federal workers completely.
Cities across the country who want to follow suit should be looking to strengthen local labor policies and ensure effective enforcement.
That's why I introduced the Protect Our Workers Enforce Rights (POWER) Act along with 13 of my colleagues. It's the most significant legislation to offer sweeping protections for workers since Trump's election.
Philly is a union town. We have deep roots in struggles for dignity, respect, and the pro-worker laws that make it possible to escape poverty, raise a family, and live a good life.
