Terrence Moore, a 55-year-old inmate at Rikers Island accused of murdering Maria Hernandez, suffered a fatal seizure in a courthouse holding cell. Despite attempts at lifesaving measures, he was pronounced dead, becoming the second inmate to die in city custody this year. Moore had been in custody for two years since his arrest in January 2023. His attorney noted that Moore was respectful and maintained his innocence throughout the legal process. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding inmate health and safety in city jails.
"He had been a gentleman throughout, never any issue, always polite, respectful and he maintained his innocence," attorney Glenn Hardy said regarding Terrence Moore.
"Our deepest sympathies are with the loved ones of Mr. Moore," said DOC Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddle in response to his passing.
