A vetting process of 549 signatures from a recall effort against Supervisor Joel Engardio revealed a 99.3% validity rate. With a total of 10,700 signatures submitted, the Department of Elections anticipates 10,525 to be valid, surpassing the 9,911 needed. Jamie Hughes, leading the recall, expressed optimism about the outcome. Engardio, involved with Proposition K, has faced opposition from constituents, and if the recall qualifies after three to four weeks of verification, a special election will follow.
The recall campaign with great fanfare turned in 10,700 signatures yesterday afternoon; nearly 300 more were submitted before close of business.
'The numbers are looking great,' said Jamie Hughes, who is running the recall effort, anticipating over 10,500 signatures will be deemed legitimate.
Engardio last year was the principal sponsor of Proposition K, which permanently closed the Upper Great Highway, leading to community backlash.
Hughes expects the signature verification process to require three to four weeks, leading up to a potential special election.
