NYC Mayor Eric Adams dropping out of Democratic primary, will seek re-election as independent
Briefly

On Thursday, NYC Mayor Eric Adams revealed he will not pursue the Democratic nomination for mayor but will instead run as an independent candidate. This decision followed the dismissal of a corruption case against him, which he claimed caused delays in his campaign. Acknowledging the challenges he faces and admitting some misjudgments, Adams expressed determination to appeal to all New Yorkers directly. Despite support from some quarters, his shift is viewed as a significant uphill battle considering his past term experiences marred by scandals and declining polls.
"More than 25,000 New Yorkers signed my Democratic primary petition, but the dismissal of the bogus case against me dragged on too long making it impossible to mount a primary campaign while these false accusations were held over me," said Adams in his announcement.
"Let me be clear, though the charges against me were false, I trusted people I should not have, and I regret that," Adams acknowledged in his video statement.
