Mayor Eric Adams expressed relief and determination to win re-election following a federal judge's dismissal of his corruption case. In a public address, he apologized to New Yorkers for the turmoil caused by what he described as a baseless case. Judge Dale Ho dismissed the case with prejudice, preventing any future prosecutions, and noted that the decision was not a reflection on the merits of the allegations against Adams. This legal victory allows Adams to focus on his campaign without the burden of corruption accusations.
"I also want to apologize to New Yorkers for having to go through this with me - a baseless case that should have never been brought in the first place."
"Everything here smacks of a bargain: dismissal of the Indictment in exchange for immigration policy concessions," Ho wrote.
"Neither the dismissal of the Indictment, nor the length of this Opinion, should be understood as any kind of statement about the merits of the allegations against the Mayor in the Indictment," Ho wrote.
"But what I want you to know that I never stopped working for you. Not for one day."
