District 4 Supervisor Joel Engardio is set for a recall vote on September 16 following the validation of over 10,500 signatures from recall organizers. This effort is primarily linked to his support for Prop K, which established Sunset Dunes park at the Upper Great Highway. Engardio, who secured his position in a narrow victory in 2022, argues that the recall will not reverse the democratic decision to create the park, which has gained significant public support. Advocates emphasize the importance of supporting elected officials despite disagreements on certain issues.
When I helped put Prop K on the ballot, I knew that I had passionate constituents on both sides of the issue. The ballot measure gave them-and our city-a chance to have a say over the future of our coast.
San Francisco voters overwhelmingly chose to open Sunset Dunes and create a beautiful new coastal park.
