Helen Settles, a lifelong activist, shared her experiences at St. Philips Baptist Church, encouraging Wagner College students to lead by example. Settles, a former Black Panther, has been instrumental in various community initiatives and has a rich history tied to civil rights movement. Accompanied by students studying leadership and race, Dr. Lori Weintrob highlighted the under-explored African American history of Staten Island. This community gathering celebrated the 155th anniversary of the church, combining education with reflection on local cultural heritage.
When it comes to leadership, you have to lead by example," Settles advised, emphasizing that authentic leadership involves demonstrating the values and principles one advocates.
