Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has proposed a comprehensive multibillion-dollar plan to modernize the outdated air traffic control system over the next four years. This initiative, announced following disruptions at Newark Liberty International Airport, aims to replace old telecommunications and surveillance technology with cutting-edge solutions. While officials estimate the modernization could cost significantly more than the House Transportation Committee's projected $12.5 billion, industry experts suggest at least $18.5 billion more may be necessary for full implementation. Duffy emphasized a commitment to tackling this issue now, rather than deferring it to future administrations.
A lot of people have said: This problem is too complicated, too expensive, too hard. But we are blessed to have a president who actually loves to build and knows how to build.
Duffy was cagey about saying what this plan will cost. The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee estimated last week that it might cost $12.5 billion to modernize the air traffic control system.
