A resurfaced clip of Zohran Mamdani, a presumptive Democratic mayoral nominee, provoked outrage due to his intention to "seize the means of production." Former Brooklyn councilman Ari Kagan, a communist refugee, expressed his alarm, recalling the negative impacts of communism in his home country. Kagan emphasized the chilling nature of Mamdani's statements and called for New Yorkers to reject him. Mamdani, a self-identified Democratic Socialist, discussed socialism's broader goals and the need for unapologetic advocacy, despite certain ideas being unpopular, such as divestment from Israel.
After [the] Red October Socialist Revolution in 1917, Bolsheviks seized means of production, jailed or killed business owners, eliminated freedoms & took over private farms & food stores.
It's very chilling to hear that, it's dangerous and scary. A majority of New Yorkers have to reject this man.
The purpose of this entire project is not simply to raise class consciousness, but to win socialism and elect leaders who are unapologetic about our socialism.
Certain issues socialists firmly believe in, such as boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israel, are unpopular at the moment but should still be championed.
