Artist lists ramshackle off-grid retreat in the Catskills wilderness for $269K
Briefly

The artist Matt Bua's off-grid sanctuary near Catskill, New York, is on the market for $269,000. The property, encompassing nearly 27 acres, features over 30 whimsical structures crafted from upcycled materials. Developed over 20 years, the site includes fairy-tale-like buildings such as a church and a bunker. Although Bua originally bought the land for $33,000 in 2006, the uniqueness of the structures has spurred interest from potential buyers, including local curators and artists. However, the land is not zoned for full-time habitation.
"Not only are you getting two parcels of land, but you're also getting what this artist did over an accumulation of over 20 years," Lanuto said. "20 years of creating this magical living structure."
"They've been following Matt's work, and they are interested in being a part of what he's done and taking over the stewardship of it," Lanuto said.
