I was raised to be a tradwife. Now, I'm the CEO of a business that generates millions in revenue.
Briefly

Makena Finger Zannini shares her journey from a conservative evangelical childhood to becoming the founder and CEO of successful companies, The Boutique COO and Brick by Brick Collective. Rising from lower-income roots, she financed her education at Wharton through loans and multiple jobs. After transforming her freelance side hustle into a booming business that now employs 120 people, she celebrates revenue milestones while confronting personal challenges, including estrangement from her family. Zannini's success and plans for surrogacy reflect both her determination and the complexities of her background.
I went to Wharton and got a Wall Street job. Since we were lower income, much of my tuition was covered, and I took out loans to pay for more.
I quit my day job about nine months later. Today, I have about 120 employees, and the company generates more than $3 million in annual recurring revenue.
Hitting the million-dollar mark in revenue was a big deal. My husband baked me brownies and wrote $1 million on them in icing.
But my story isn't shiny and picture-perfect. I don't speak to my parents or three younger siblings. They’re evangelical in the truest sense of the word.
