""Unfortunately," Fever coach Stephanie White said Tuesday, "we have a lot of experience in rallying around teammates.""
""That's what Steph said in the huddle, 'We're built for this moment, we've been here before,'" guard Lexie Hull said. "It's just so unlucky, so crazy, that that had to happen tonight.""
Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell collapsed in a winner-take-all semifinal with extreme lower-body cramping, was helped off and taken to a local hospital. The Fever endured a season of injuries, including a mid-July, season-ending groin injury to Caitlin Clark and four other players lost for the season. The roster repeatedly changed through hardship contracts and lineup reinventions. Coach Stephanie White noted the team's experience rallying around teammates. The depleted Fever advanced to the WNBA semifinals and, in Game 5, rallied to force overtime despite losing Mitchell and All-Star center Aliyah Boston to fouls.
