Trae Young heads to Washington, labelled an Atlanta 'legend' by team-mate
"That's T.Y. That's Trae Young. When I first got here, he was one of the first guys that texted me, welcoming me to the city, gave me a lot of advice. Obviously, playing with Trae, as a big, is like a dream come true. I love him as a guy, I love him as a teammate. ... An Atlanta legend."
"I know you all have questions for me that right now I'm not at liberty to talk about or answer."
Trae Young is being traded from the Atlanta Hawks to the Washington Wizards in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert. The trade gives the Hawks financial flexibility as they pursue roster moves while the Wizards add a veteran point guard to mentor a young core. Young, 27, has $95 million remaining on a contract through the 2026-27 season and departs as Atlanta's all-time leader in three-pointers (1,295) and assists (4,837). He has played just 10 games this season due to injury, averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assists. Coach Quin Snyder declined to comment on trade specifics, and teammate Mouhamed Gueye called Young an Atlanta legend.
