The team tied a franchise record with three players selected to the NBA Rising Stars game: Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, and Tre Johnson. Alex Sarr will be sidelined for a couple weeks with a hamstring injury. Bub Carrington was named as Sarr's replacement, preserving the franchise-tying total of three selections. An injury to Cooper Flagg will require another Rising Stars replacement and could create an additional opportunity for a Wizard. The front office under Will Dawkins and Michael Winger has prioritized building a strong young core. Will Riley was selected from Illinois after serving as a sixth man.
