DT Payne ejected after slugging Lions' St. Brown
Daron Payne was ejected in the second quarter after punching Detroit receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown following a verbal exchange. The unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty resulted in an automatic ejection after Detroit's third touchdown of the first half. The ejection was the first of Payne's eight-season career. Detroit succeeded on the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 22-3. Washington's defense has struggled this season, ranking 31st in both yards and points allowed over the last four weeks. The interior defensive line, led by Payne and Javon Kinlaw, had been a primary strength, and Kinlaw drew a penalty one play later.

He was given an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and an automatic ejection. It marked the first time Payne, in his eighth season, has been ejected from a game."
"Washington's defense has struggled all season - in the last four weeks, the Commanders ranked 31st in the NFL in both yards and points allowed -- but its main strength was the interior of the defensive line led by Payne and Javon Kinlaw. Payne's five tackles for a loss are third on the team. Kinlaw earned an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty one play after Payne's ejection following the conversion."
