Sources: Broncos' Ehlinger passed on other offers
"Payton has repeatedly said throughout training camp and the preseason he believes the Broncos have the talent to be a Super Bowl team if "we do what's required'' and the resources from the Walton-Penner ownership group to win "the jump balls'' in negotiations."
"Sam is a guy that we want back," Payton said after Tuesday's practice. "Now the league a few years back put in a rule"
Sam Ehlinger was released during roster cuts but turned down at least two active-roster offers to sign with the Denver Broncos' practice squad and is expected to participate in practice. Coach Sean Payton actively sought to keep Ehlinger on the practice squad because the team could initially keep only two quarterbacks on the active roster. Payton expressed confidence that the Broncos have Super Bowl-caliber talent if they do what is required and cited the Walton-Penner ownership group's resources for negotiating advantages. The team kept expanded depth at other positions and retained injured tight end Nate Adkins on the active roster.
