Sources: Browns trading QB Pickett to Raiders
"Following two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pickett was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles last offseason and played behind Jalen Hurts. The Browns traded a 2025 fifth-round pick and Dorian Thompson-Robinson for Pickett in March. He was competing to be the Browns' starter, but didn't play in the preseason after injuring his hamstring on July 26. Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said on Sunday that he thought Pickett would be available for Week 1."
"Pickett will be the backup quarterback behind starter Geno Smith. The transaction comes two days after Aidan O'Connell fractured his right wrist in the Raiders' preseason finale against the Arizona Cardinals. O'Connell is expected to miss six to eight weeks and likely be placed on the injured reserve list. Raiders coach Pete Carroll said Sunday that the team would explore all possibilities to find a quarterback."
The Las Vegas Raiders acquired quarterback Kenny Pickett from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick. Pickett will serve as the backup to starter Geno Smith after Aidan O'Connell fractured his right wrist and is expected to miss six to eight weeks. O'Connell is likely to be placed on injured reserve. Pickett has played in 30 career games (25 starts), thrown for 4,765 yards with 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, completed 62.4% of his passes and owns a 15-10 record as a starter. Pickett was a first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers, spent two seasons there, was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles last offseason, and was acquired by the Browns in March in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Pickett missed Browns preseason action with a hamstring injury on July 26 but was expected to be available for Week 1.
