Vladimir Tarasenko recorded his first two-goal game of the season Tuesday as the Wings wrapped up a four-game home stand with a back-and-forth outing at Little Caesars Arena. The San Jose Sharks didn't look like a team scraping the bottom of the NHL standings, pulling out a 6-3 victory. That ended the Red Wings' seven-game winning streak that began Dec. 29, halting the progress the Wings (20-19-4) had made in climbing closer to the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
Tyler Toffoli put the Wings back down by a pair of goals within a minute. The Wings pulled Ville Husso with three-plus minutes to go for an extra attacker. Mario Ferraro took advantage to double the Sharks' lead.
His first goal pulled the Wings within 2-1, his second, within 3-2, after William Eklund finished a nice setup from 2024 first-overall pick Macklin Celebrini. Celebrini set up Mikael Granlund for a power play goal to make it 4-2, but Lucas Raymond shaved that to 4-3.
Husso made his first start since a 23-save performance in a 4-2 victory over Toronto, his lone NHL victory in his first seven appearances this season. As in Sunday's game against the Seattle Kraken, the Wings' opponent had jump from the opening faceoff, and the Sharks dented Husso on their second shot of the game.
