Jack Hughes scored the sudden-death golden goal less than two minutes into 3-on-3 overtime after initiating the decisive sequence by poking the puck away from Cale Makar at the American blue line. Zach Werenski out-muscled Nathan MacKinnon and fed Hughes in stride, and Hughes snapped the puck through the five-hole of goalie Jordan Binnington. Cale Makar scored Canada's lone, game-tying goal in the second period. The United States celebrated with the jersey of the late John Gaudreau presented alongside his children.
