It was definitely a surprise, for sure, but definitely something I don't take for granted. Not only being a captain of this team and knowing all the guys that I looked up to in this organization - I played with a lot of them - but also the history of this team. When you get voted by your peers, it's something special, rather than being appointed based on position. It's something I definitely don't take for granted.
I think he's a mentor to the entire offensive side of the ball. He's familiar with the offense,
Brissett’s experience played a part in him being named captain. So did the fact that he has taken command of the Patriots' new-look offense - something that came naturally to him.
While Brissett joined the Patriots as an offseason free agency signing, he does have a history with the club. A third-round draft choice in 2016, he spent his rookie season in New England as a developmental backup behind Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo.
