"Police said Friday they are looking for the driver of a white SUV who struck and critically injured a 71-year-old man in a Brooklyn crosswalk before driving away. NYPD officials said the incident happened just before 6 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Avenue S in Sheepshead Bay. The 71-year-old was crossing Ocean Avenue westbound on Avenue S when the driver hit him while going north on Ocean Avenue, police said."
"The driver fled the scene, and first responders took the man to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in critical condition, according to the NYPD. NYPD data shows traffic crashes involving pedestrians are down so far in 2026 compared to the same period last year in the 61st Precinct, which includes Sheepshead Bay, Kings Bay, Gravesend and Manhattan Beach. There were 15 such crashes in the precinct through Feb. 8 this year, down from 28 in the same timeframe in 2025."
