Brooklyn's Community Board 6 wants NYC DOT to issue parking tickets instead of NYPD

""You know, I've seen right when kids get out of school, a car parked entirely blocking the crosswalk or a delivery truck doing that as well. And then the kids have to walk out into traffic to get across," said Melone."

""They have other things in their toolbox, aside from just issuing parking tickets. And I think that that would be an opportunity to use some of those tools to really solve these problems once and for all," said Melone."

Community Board 6 passed a resolution for the NYC Department of Transportation to handle parking tickets instead of the NYPD. Co-chair Tony Melone noted that the DOT previously managed parking violations since 1996. He highlighted issues like double-parked cars and blocked crosswalks, particularly affecting children. Melone believes the DOT could utilize various tools beyond just issuing tickets to effectively address these problems. The resolution will be presented to the full board for a vote next month, followed by seeking support from elected officials.
