"From here specifically, St. George to Brooklyn, you have to take the ferry and then the train which is going to be an extra transfer," said commuter Robear Harris, who was happy to hear the news."

The New York City Economic Development Corporation announced an optimized NYC Ferry system map with changes beginning Dec. 8. St. George will be connected to Brooklyn and the rest of the system, enabling Staten Island riders to transfer to other routes and linking Brooklyn to Manhattan's west side. The East River route will be split into two routes during most times, with a local midday and winter weekend service to preserve connectivity. Soundview and Rockaway routes will be combined to provide direct Midtown and East 90th Street service about every 45 minutes. Rockaway shuttle buses will run during weekday peaks and summer weekends. The South Brooklyn route will provide direct Midtown access for Red Hook and Atlantic Avenue residents and increased peak frequency, and will connect Sunset Park and Bay Ridge to Red Hook and other landings on summer weekends. The optimization reflects input from over 15,000 riders.
