Firefighters responded to a blaze at a home in New Brighton on Monday morning, with the fire reported at a multi-story structure around 10:25 a.m. Firefighters could be seen extending ladders to the roof and upper floors of the building, with visible burn damage on the side of the structure.
"In the beginning, we were litigious, we were out protesting, and that has kind of changed over the decades and we've turned into an organization that primarily does its work behind the scenes."

"The North Shore of Staten Island is a food desert. There are not a lot of places that have fresh, local vegetables and produce and people were looking for something healthier," said Ilene Pappert, director of the Goodhue Community Center in New Brighton where the distributions take place. "It has become such a community. People are sharing recipes, people are excited about trying new things. And they feel like they were getting their money's worth."
