Death Valley employee 'lost consciousness' before rescue in national park
Briefly

The unidentified employee departed for the hike at 4 a.m. from Panamint Springs Resort, crossing through the valley before making his way up to the rocky peak.
After an unknown period of time, he woke up bruised and realized it was time to call for a rescue, noting he used the SOS function on his Garmin tracking device.
His rescue is among several others that have occurred in the national park as it swelters under record-breaking heat and remained at 100 degrees or hotter for nearly 100 consecutive hours.
Park officials described the rescued employee as 'a Death Valley local with extensive experience hiking in the desert,' raising concerns about safety during extreme temperatures.
