Kaplan highlighted Ellison's exceptional cooperation during the trial against Sam Bankman-Fried, stating, "I've seen a lot of cooperators in 30 years here, I've never seen one quite like Miss Ellison," which ultimately contributed to her sentencing.
Despite her cooperation, Judge Kaplan made it clear that in cases of significant fraud like FTX, receiving leniency for such cooperation was not an option, declaring, "In a case this serious, to be literally a 'get out of jail free' card is not something I can see my way through to."
